Once roasting is complete, turn off the roaster. Remove the lid and pour the beans into a colander or sifter.
Once the beans feel cool to the touch, move the beans around by hand to further separate the chaff from the beans.
Once the beans are poured in, the temperature will drop. It’s a good idea to have a separate thermometer to check that the temperature rises back up to 240oC.
The whole process can take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, depending on how dark you want your beans.
You only need to check the beans periodically. You don’t have to stand over them as you do with other coffee roasting methods.
