The Bodum French press coffee maker is made in Portugal. It is available in a variety of sizes and colors. You can also opt for the shatterproof plastic beaker made of recyclable BPA-free plastic.

Now let’s take a look at some of the features you can expect from the Bodum Chambord French press coffee maker.

Features Overview

Additional filter: The Bodum French press coffee maker has an additional plastic filter on the top, which provides another layer of filtration for any coffee grounds that may have escaped.

Plastic beaker: The 34-ounce size has a BPA-free plastic beaker made from recyclable material. This makes it less likely to break or shatter.

Pros:

  1. Can brew coffee in four minutes

  2. It can be used for coffee and tea

  3. According to the manufacturer, all parts are dishwasher safe

  4. Available in a variety of colors: black, chrome, copper, cork, matte chrome, and white

  5. Available in various sizes: 12 ounces, 17 ounces, 34 ounces, and 51 ounces.

  6. Choose between the glass carafe or the shatterproof plastic carafe.

Cons:

  1. The handle can loosen over time. A loose handle can make it difficult to pour coffee from the beaker.

  2. There are complaints that the coffee can develop a plastic aftertaste because of the extra plastic filter in the lid.

  3. Some customers complain that the plastic beaker cracks just as easily as glass. This may be due to the way the French press is cleaned.

  4. There have also been complaints of poor customer service regarding refunds and warranty issues.

One thing to consider when choosing a size is the definition of “cups.” A standard cup of coffee in the US is 8 ounces in size. The cup size of French press coffee makers is about 4 ounces. So, if you like to drink a large cup of coffee, you should double the specified size, so you’re not disappointed.

Also, when you fill the beaker with hot water, you must consider that the coffee grounds will also take up space. So you may be unable to fill the beaker with as much water as possible.

How To Make Coffee With the Bodum Chambord French Press Coffee Maker

Using a French press coffee maker couldn’t be easier. If you can boil water, you’re already halfway there!

  1. Start by boiling water

  2. Remove the plunger of the French press

  3. Measure the coffee grounds

  4. Pour the coffee grounds onto the bottom of the French press

  5. Once the water is boiled, add it to the beaker using the measurements on the side

  6. Stir the water to circulate the coffee grounds

  7. Carefully place the plunger on the top of the beaker

  8. Twist the lid to close the pour spout opening

  9. After 4 minutes, press down on the plunger until all the grounds are under the filter and all the coffee is above it.

  10. Your coffee is now ready to pour.

Be careful not to press down too hard on the plunger. If you press too hard, the beaker may crack or shatter.

How To Get The Best Cup of Coffee

Use freshly ground coarse coffee beans to get the best cup of coffee. A standard measure for coffee grounds is one heaping tablespoon of grounds for every 6 ounces of coffee. This is for a medium-strength brew. If you like your coffee stronger, add two tablespoons of coffee grounds per 6 ounces.

Water temperature: water temperature for French presses should be between 92-96°C (197 and 204oF). If you use hotter water, the cup may crack or break.

Care and Maintenance

Many French press coffee makers state that the product and/or parts are dishwasher-safe. However, in my experience, it is best to hand wash all parts and let them dry after each use. This will prolong the life of your French press.

Did You Know?

The standard French press coffee maker protocol is to throw the grounds in the trash or dispose of them after use. Interestingly, you can reuse it! But here is the caveat. You must reuse the coffee grounds within 15 minutes of the first brew. But you should know that the coffee will not be as robust as the first cup.
